This a very good book perhaps even a great book for anglers or wannabe anglers! Pros: informational on fishing in the US and other parts of North America with some very good black and white photos of fish and basic fishing rigs, so you can id a catch and probably catch something. Basic fishing knowledge and even some things about safety. Cons: not enough about safety, fishing line, fly, lure or bait casting, fishing tackle, no colored photos or illustrations. I don't think there is enough about safety, basic casting a line (fly, bait or whatever) types of tackle (basic types of bobbers/floats, leaders, lures, flys and fishing line w/o the science competition). I don't think there is enough about boat launch safety either. I have heard many different stories about people having accidents or problems launching their fishing boat especially when the boat is bigger than a canoe. It would be an awful week end to spend with a wrecked boat or transport and no fish. There is no basic survival chapter on fishing. So, if I don't have any equipment what do I need to survive? How do you make field expedient fishing gear from scratch? I know how I would do it. There should be a basic safety and risk plan with a check list in this book to! I'm not frowning about this but I'm not smiling about it either! The book is a good read however, and should be put into the Bantam School Book Club. I believe students would like this book very much. :) :) :)

Very informative with great information about all aspects of fishing. To an experienced angler this book will lack depth, but it is perfect for a novice. The author's enthusiasm for fishing really shines through in the text.
