On October 5, 1962, a god was born, for that day marked the release of Dr. No starring Sean Connery as super-cool British secret agent James Bond. To commemorate the film's 40th anniversary, Nourmand, co-proprietor of London's Reel Poster Gallery and a film poster consultant for Christie's, has collected the Bond series movie posters (more than 200), including lobby one-sheets, teaser posters for forthcoming releases, and some foreign versions dating from Dr. No to 1999's The World Is Not Enough. Each poster includes a caption detailing its background, a film plot synopsis, and special production notes (if any). There are also additional goodies such as festival posters, a spread of special artwork appearing in Esquire in the 1960s, and profiles of each artist. I STARTED READING JAMES BOND BOOKS IN 1963 WHEN I WAS 13 YEARS OLD. I HAVE CONTINUED TO ENJOY THE BOOKS AND THE MOVIES FOR OVER 50 YEARS. I JUST RECEIVED THIS EXCELLENT SOFT COVER BOOK. IT IS OVER-SIZED AND THE PAGES AND POSTERS ARE OF EXCELLENT QUALITY - SUITABLE FOR FRAMING. THE POSTERS GO THROUGH PIERCE BRONSAN' THIRD MOVIE - THE WORLD IS NOT ENOUGH. THERE IS SOME TEXT, BUT THE MAIN FOCUS IS THE POSTERS.

"... THESE IMAGES (THE POSTERS) HAVE BECOME SOME OF THE MOST MEMORABLE VISUAL TEASERS IN CINEMATIC HISTORY AND ARE NOW SOME OF THE HOTTEST ITEMS OF MEMORABILIA AMONG BOTH BOND AFICIONADOS AND MOVIE COLLECTORS."

A Legendary Collection

This is an art book - plain and simple.
The paintings are stunning and remind us of a time before pompous TV ads and Internet campaigns - when poster art meant something.

Even though the collection is not complete (that would take several more books) I think it is "the best of..." as well as concept art, which by itself is worth the price of the book.

The book is oversized and the printing if of quality, so you can enjoy the classic posters as well as the more recent ones.

Well worth the money.

Minimalism is arguably the most popular style of concert music that the late-twentieth century has produced, appealing to the widest possible audience - fans of rock, jazz and classical music. But the minimalist aesthetic has not been lacking in controversy. To its detractors, it is maddeningly repetitive and single-minded, no better than pop music masquerading as art. To its adherents, it is ecstatic and vibrant, combining classical, popular and non-Western elements to create a style that restores the severed link between composer and audience. The two best-known minimalist composers, Americans Philip Glass and Steve Reich, are world-famous figures. But they can only properly be understood in the context of their predecessors (La Mome Young and Terry Riley) and their successors (John Adams, Meredith Monk, and Europeans such as Michael Nyman, Louis Andriessen, and Arvo Part). This book, the first overview of minimalism aimed at a general public, traces the lives of the minimalist composers, discusses their most significant works, and examines the artistic milieu from which they emerged.
